Tournament principle

PLAN THE DAY — NOT JUST THE MATCH.

A tournament should test sporting skill, not somebody’s ability to decode unnecessary chaos.

Travel and arrival

  • Route, parking/public transport and expected travel time.
  • Which entrance to use.
  • Where registration is.
  • Who/where to ask if you are unsure.

Schedule

  • Where is the authoritative schedule?
  • How are match calls made?
  • How will delays or table/board changes be communicated?
  • Do I want notifications written down or on my phone?

Sensory plan

  • Noise/music/commentary.
  • Lighting and visual activity.
  • Crowded areas.
  • Smells/food areas.
  • Where I can wait or recover between matches.

Playing and coaching

Instructions/reminders that help me: ______________________________

What I want my coach/support person to do if I am overloaded: ______________________________

If the plan changes

My useful sequence is: WHAT CHANGED? → WHAT STAYED THE SAME? → WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? → WHEN IS THE NEXT UPDATE?

After play

What helps me recover before travelling or playing again: ______________________________
