MYTH: “Menopause ends serious sport.”

FACT: Menopause does not define competitive ambition or sporting competence.

MYTH: “Everyone has severe symptoms.”

FACT: Experiences vary from very little impact to substantial day-to-day symptoms.

MYTH: “Brain fog means women cannot compete.”

FACT: Memory/concentration difficulties can occur, but they do not provide a basis for assuming an individual is incapable of competition.

MYTH: “Under 45 means it cannot be menopause.”

FACT: It can happen earlier; early menopause and POI have specific clinical pathways.

MYTH: “Every woman needs HRT.”

FACT: HRT is an important treatment option, but management is individual and alternatives also exist.

MYTH: “HRT is the only support.”

FACT: NICE/NHS describe non-hormonal options too, including menopause-specific CBT in some circumstances.

MYTH: “Natural remedies are always safe.”

FACT: Evidence and safety can be uncertain and interactions with medicines can occur.

MYTH: “Heavy or unexpected bleeding is just menopause.”

FACT: Some bleeding changes warrant healthcare assessment; any postmenopausal bleeding should be checked.
